The desert city
"This body of work illustrates a world in which a ruling power controls the major global governments in an attempt to create a sort of artificial peace among humanity. This dystopia plays off of current problems in today’s world by making its society seem welcoming and accepting, but after further exploration of this society, it is revealed through the details in the imagery to the viewer that it is, in fact, controlling and slowly strips its residents of their freedom. In order to portray this concept, I have created a series of ten digital paintings of the society of this world via its environments and characters. The contrast between the welcoming and dark, controlling factors of those environments are what are used to give the viewer the sensation that they are part of the world I have created. By using vast, epic landscapes and architectural structures, the viewer is encouraged to explore the imagery and, in a sense, participate by taking part in the story that is portrayed to better understand this new world."

selections from Kristin's Digital Painting
"In today’s society life is fast paced and we often lose out on subtle moments in time. Within a second there are judgments passed on everything going on around us. Challenging the viewer to look past the painting and discover its actual meaning not only helps someone to better understand the portrait, but to understand themselves.
A direct gaze becomes more personal to the viewer and enables them to question what is occurring. Each individual was interviewed about what it is that they believe makes them who they are. Along with this, everyone explained a recurring dream that they had, as dreams tend to express hidden motives or ideas. Each portrait reveals an aspect of their dream, and expresses certain personality traits and views; not every aspect is revealed, so the viewer can make their own interpretations.
Digital print is used to show each person on a direct level, while resin becomes a gap between the portrait and the viewer. Digital is often a flat and uniform medium so the use of traditional medium of resin helps to bring in more characteristics of human-like traits, such as imperfection."

Megan's Character Concepts
"'Arbiter' is a series of concept artworks that attempts to illustrate a world. I created this world based on a random selection of words which were then narrowed down through careful consideration. These words are as follows; necromancy, conviction, journey, paradise, sand, arbiter. I was also heavily influenced by the concepts of misguided justice, bigotry and redemption.
The characters I illustrated include the protagonist; a troubled young woman forced into heroism; her companion; a wandering spirit captured in her lamp; the antagonist; a corrupt religious leader; a benevolent species and malicious beings that plague the world's inhabitants.
The goals of my work is to offer a fresh perspective on contemporary social issues and for viewers to walk away from my work with a broader worldview. "
