The Game Boy Advance is manufactured and marketed by Nintendo. It is the successor to the popular Game Boy color. It was released in North America on JRun 11th 2001. As of June 30, 2007 there has been 41.42 million units sold in the U.S. alone, while 80.02 million were sold worldwide. The top selling game for this specific system was from popular video game series, Pokemon. It is a sixth generation Nintendo Game Boy

Having no knowledge on video game engineering, I expect to learn and research various components of the gaming system. My theoretical model structure for this device would feature the exterior in which it will protect the electrical components inside the device. There are also several buttons that enables a four-axis directional movement, start & select button, two game play buttons on the front interface, and two game play buttons on each upper corner.

Two alkaline double AA batteries power the device from the back. Once a game cartridge is entered in the serial port of the device and the On switch is turned on, there are several detailed protocols and electrical components enabled for that specific game. Afterwards, it activates the video LCD screen to project several RGB colors.  While playing a game, the directional and game play buttons are activated once the player presses the plastic exterior button. The plastic exterior buttons  are connected to an interior keypad that presses against several chips or electrical boards that inputs various protocols of the system. The sound may also activate through another protocol based on the video game, and is projected on the interior speaker system.

The original owner of this specific device was my younger brother, Mark. On Sept. 2007, I was permitted to use this device for this specific assignment.
Mark’s history with this Game Boy device began during the summer of 2003, where he purchased the system at a Christian Church garage sale for $20. The second hand Game Boy had a missing battery cover when he purchased the device. Mark primarily played seven games on the device, which were from the popular Pokemon video game series. Pokemon Red, Diamond, Emerald, Sapphire, Pearl, Green, and Crystal were the primary games he played throughout the four years he owned it. He originally purchased a case for the device, but lost it during a vacation trip to Canada. The reason he chose the pink game cover was because it was the only color available at the garage sale. He occasionally dropped the device on the ground ; however, it always played any video game without any problems. It has several minor scratches to the screen, but it is still visible to play video games.
After two years of owning the device, he decided to upgrade and the Game Boy Advance SP. One of the main reasons he bought the SP device was that it has a reparable battery system, which allowed him to no longer buy any more batteries. He set the Game Boy Advance aside and left it in his closet for the next two years.
