3 stage bodies is a 3-channel interactive video work that responds to audio, morphing and dissolving the 3D scanned human forms in a real time simulation created in Touchdesigner and using glsl shaders. The piece is a three-channel interactive video work, exploring the capitalization of the human form and the corporeality of databases. The destruction and rebuilding of the female forms allude to the violence against underrepresented groups and the ways we contort ourselves to change our image. This piece was an exploration into transferring 3D scanning into generative forms responding to multiple databases.
Ju$t, the first channel, uses a pose and deformation reminiscent of John Merrickās deformities and suffering. This video channel invites the viewer to consider the violent, both physical and non-physical, towards underrepresented populations. The middle video channel revolves around a central figure in the Vriksasana pose as the geometries unfold and break down. While the overall sensation is one of peace and balance, there is a clear separation between the backdrop and the black figure rising and falling in the foreground. The final pose is one of crucifixion.
This work is intended to be an interactive installation. The audience is able to control the bloating and thinning of the figure through sounds, tone and rhythm. However, due to the necessary computing power to run the project, it can be exported and run as a ~30 minute video piece.
